Our STEMinist Scholarship Program provides financial support to young women of color pursuing college degrees in engineering and/or computer science.

Calculated Genius is proud to support and encourage women to pursue degrees across countless engineering fields, by recognizing their hard work & dedication to their chosen field with financial awards.

Scholarships are accepted via the application through April 2024.

 
 

Eligibility & Application Information

Who Can Apply for Calculated Genius’ Scholarship?
College-bound women of color from the Chicago metropolitan area who will be majoring in any branch of engineering or computer science.

Scholarship Eligibility:
To be eligible for this program, you must:

  • Be a female high school senior graduating in 2024

  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).

  • Major (or intend on majoring) in an ENGINEERING discipline or COMPUTER SCIENCE in college.

  • Geography: Chicago metropolitan area students

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident or have active Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status.

Awards: Calculated Genius will provide scholarships of up to $5,000 per student for the 2024-2025 School Year.

Selection Criteria: 
Complete applications will be reviewed and scored on the following criteria:

  • Essay Content (more information to be provided in the final week of January)

  • Academic achievements and records

  • Community involvement, volunteerism, or job-based experience

Decisions made by the selection committee are final and are not subject to appeal. No application feedback will be given. Data provided by applicants is anonymized (names and name of school is removed before committee reviews applications).

What supporting documentation is required for this application?

  • High School Transcript

  • 2 Letters of recommendation: one from an educator or school-based professional, and one from a job manager, internship, volunteer coordinator, or other professional who can attest to applicants’ passion / talent / interest in STEM. (These can be emailed by the recommender to Brian@CalculatedGenius.org)

  • College Admissions Letter

Requirements:
Recipients are required to complete an application with a short essay and submit a copy of their official transcript with at least one letter of recommendation. If you have any issues please email brian@calculatedgenius.org.

The scholarship recipients may be asked to communicate with summer camp scholars in a mentor capacity and attend the Calculated Genius Showcase event. Calculated Genius needs to be notified of any changes to contact information within two weeks after the changes have occurred.

Program Timeline:

  • Application Open: January 22, 2024

  • Application Deadline: May 10, 2024* (Deadline extended due to FAFSA delays)

  • Notification of Selection Results: May / June 2024

  • Award Celebration: June 2024

  • Funds will be disbursed after the Showcase Event in Summer 2024. Funds will be made directly payable to colleges / universities.
